EVALUATION QUESTION 3: WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

Referring back to my case study of a publishing company, I have decided that a magazine publisher such as Bauer Media would be likely to distribute my music magazine.  Link:http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/

This would be beneficial to Bauer Media firstly because they have nothing in their music magazine portfolio that is similar to the genre of my music magazine. Although my magazine partly targets the rock and pop audience, as do Bauer Media’s ‘Q’, ‘Mojo’ and ‘KERRANG!’, my magazine also targets the rap, grime and dubstep audience just as much. 

Secondly, this would be financially beneficial to Bauer because they would be distributing a magazine into a new market for themselves with no other competition in their company. Since my magazine has basically a slightly wider range in music genre in one magazine. The pop audience find it more appealing to buy my magazine due to its similar and popularity of genres.

Thirdly, rap is a very popular genre along with rock. That would mean that my magazine would have twice as much advertisers wanting to advertise in my magazine than any of Bauer Media’s existing portfolio. For example, rap related items such as Monster Beats by Dre.’ Headphones.

From my audience research, I have found out that a number of people order their magazines through subscription, therefore I would definitely encourage subscription to my magazine. This give the people a chance in purchasing the my magazine to their front door instead of processing it through the checkout in a store.

I would also distribute my magazine in stores and magazine retailers such as WHSmith. This is because my magazine has some quite technical content for the average music lover, so it would be sensible having my magazine distributed through music stores which attracts the technical type of music lovers.
