EVALUATION QUESTION 2: HOW DOES YOUR MUSIC MAGAZINE REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

My magazine design has been made to represent a mixed audience of an age range of 16 to 19, but his can be argued to be aimed at a female audience. This teenage age range has a very dedicated interest in the pop and R&B genres as seen in my audience research. It features an image of a female artist in her teen age that plays a genre in pop or rock. I represented these cultures with an image of a young teenage female smiling and show a peace sign which portray a part of the genre pop. Any passer-by could guess as to what they are trying to represent.

The artist in my front page is dressed very interestingly with an urban and independent sense. She wears a long teal shirt with a light grey leather jacket, and a cult western scarf. This is a common fashion in pop rated working to middle class and stereotypically representing teenagers. The most obvious item I have used to represent the artist is the funky headphones which the model is wearing on her neck. His is very eye catching because these headphones are very flashing in an independent style. The headphones are vibrantly colourful and stylish which is unusual because flashy and expensive headphones are typically stylish and in one colour. This is stereotypical of rock and pop artist to have funky headphones, so it is renowned in that genre.

However this does not mean that my magazine appeals to a specific audience, because my model is from a non-white background, my magazine is targeted at all genders, social groups, race, religion, etc. As not many music magazines feature a person from a different background, this makes my media product represent all races and religions as equal. My model is also wearing very urban clothing. However this outfit does not scream rap or rock or dubstep, and it does not fit one particular sub culture. My model has helped me by deliberately chosen clothing such as this to give my photograph an open meaning so that it does not just appeal to one portion of my target audience

My contents page contains a photo of two male models side by side and both wearing Dr. Dre's Beats headphones. Also a photo on the same page of a female model holding a CD up into the light using lab tongs, wearing a lab coat and Dr Dre Beats headphones. This headphone is a new influenced object of fashion among the urban teenage social group, and a product used by many of the world's top music producers. This represents my target social group as people who take music seriously and value the quality of the music they are listening to.

I’ve spent large amounts of time planning and deciding on props, outfits and the different photos themselves. I have learnt that it is extremely important to plan and be organised when producing a music magazine, as a single prop ca connote may different meanings to people, which is why I have chose these props and outfits which shows a very obvious and opening meaning.
